Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Warriors Table
Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a exciting storyline including angels, fiends, and dark forces growing in influence within the city.
Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The latest chapter finished on a major cliffhanger and revealed the initial group of characters who will separate from the main group to begin their independent quest, distinct from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table features Teor Pridesire (brought to life by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).
The Reason for Division
Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at one table would be unworkable.
That’s why, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Prelude, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Warrior Group
As described by the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who prefer a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are rare.
Initially, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might seem mismatched, but the events of the third episode make it clear why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Why They Must Go
First, the party knows exactly where to head next after a intense opening clash with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose death initiated the story’s plot—used the enemy for his personal gain, invading the hidden lair, striking the character, and stealing all the magical artifacts to dispose of.
Casimir then cleared his obligations and escaped to a secure base in the remote area, above the city, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each member has a personal reason to depart the metropolitan area:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and trusted friend, desires retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with Timmony and advises that it is a dangerous place.
- The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his family’s wishes to eliminate the target and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- But, their status as key figures in the powerful family could help the party reach places they normally couldn’t.
- Moreover, The fighter swore a life debt to The savior for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- The rogue and The character are known criminals.
- The warrior and The healer defied House Halovar and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by the family.
This results in them few options but to travel to Timmony in quest for Casimir.
What’s Next?
Based on the recent installment’s Cooldown, we find out that the warrior group will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the participants to form the Seekers and Schemers groups.
Fans can look forward to learning which characters will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, available to watch on October 24.
